This medicine is inhaled by mouth to treat certain infections in people with cystic fibrosis.
Before you take this medicine, tell your healthcare provider if you have ever had:
Females of childbearing age: This medicine is not usually given to pregnant women because it can harm the baby. If you are pregnant, tell your healthcare provider. Do not become pregnant during treatment with this medicine. If you become pregnant, contact your healthcare provider right away. Do not breast-feed while you are taking this medicine.
Use this medicine exactly as your healthcare provider prescribes. Do not stop using this medicine without your healthcare provider's approval.
An instruction guide comes with this medicine. Read it thoroughly, and follow all directions for cleaning and disinfecting the nebulizer.
This medicine is a clear yellow liquid. Do not use it if it is cloudy or contains particles.
This medicine is inhaled from a nebulizer. Inhale the medicine while you are sitting or standing upright. Use the mouthpiece of the nebulizer to breathe the medicine in through your mouth. Nose clips may help you breathe through your mouth. Rinse your mouth after each treatment.
If you do not understand how or when to use this medicine, ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist to explain.
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next scheduled dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and use the next one as directed. Do not use double doses. Always wait at least 6 hours between doses. If you are not sure of what to do if you miss a dose, or if you miss more than one dose, contact your healthcare provider.
An acute overdose of this medicine is not likely to cause life-threatening symptoms. If you think that you or anyone else may have taken too much of this medicine, call the poison control center at 800-222-1222.
This medicine may affect your hearing. If you notice any hearing loss, along with dizziness or ringing in your ears, contact your healthcare provider. Do not drive or operate machinery if you are dizzy.
People who have cystic fibrosis can have many symptoms. Some symptoms may be caused by your medicine. If you have any new or worsening symptoms, tell your healthcare provider.
If you need emergency care, surgery, or dental work, tell the healthcare provider or dentist you are using this medicine.
Along with its needed effects, your medicine may cause some unwanted side effects. Some side effects may be very serious. Some side effects may go away as your body adjusts to the medicine. Tell your healthcare provider if you have any side effects that continue or get worse.
Life-threatening (Report these to your healthcare provider right away. If you cannot reach your healthcare provider right away, get emergency medical care or call 911 for help): Allergic reaction (hives; itching; rash; trouble breathing; tightness in your chest; swelling of your lips, tongue, and throat).
Serious (report these to your healthcare provider right away): Ringing in your ears, hearing loss, dizziness, increased coughing or wheezing, change in the amount or color of urine.
Other: Increased cough, hoarseness, increased sputum, weakness, runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, upset stomach, fever, headache, chest pain, loss of appetite.
When you take this medicine with other medicines, it can change the way this or any of the other medicines work. Nonprescription medicines, vitamins, natural remedies, and certain foods may also interact. Using these products together might cause harmful side effects. Talk to your healthcare provider if you are taking:
If you are not sure if your medicines might interact, ask your pharmacist or healthcare provider. Keep a list of all your medicines with you. List all the prescription medicines, nonprescription medicines, supplements, natural remedies, and vitamins that you take. Be sure that you tell all healthcare providers who treat you about all the products you are taking.
This medicine is sensitive to light. Store it in a dark, cool place such as the refrigerator in its original foil pouch. Do not use any medicine that is discolored or cloudy.
